What You’ll Learn

Over the course of seven (7) weeks, through videos, readings and discussions, you will explore the following topics:

Week 1: General management

Week 2: Leadership theories and organisational power and politics

Week 3: Leadership communication and employee motivation

Week 4: Managing information systems

Week 5: Managerial decision-making

Week 6: The drivers of business success and failure

Week 7: Undertake a summative assessment that captures all the key learning outcomes for this course.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the role and operational functions of a general manager.
  • Explore leadership theories to discuss effective leadership practices.
  • Discuss information management and evaluation in decision-making.
  • Apply decision-making techniques and models.
  • Describe factors leading to the success or failure of businesses.

You will have also created a portfolio of evidence, which you can use to demonstrate your knowledge of understanding of the core principles that inform the way managers function and lead their teams successfully.

Intro to Management & Leadership can be stacked with Foundations of Business Management: Global Trends & Organisational Functions, and if you meet the minimum entrance criteria, you can enrol for the Bachelor of Applied Social Science Degree and apply for module exemption.
